On May 28th, Uptown in Chicago filled up as fans made their way to Aragon Ballroom. Packed front to back, Turnover was mere hours away from playing a sold out show, bringing out long time fans and new fans alike for a very special anniversary tour.

Offering something they have never done before, the bands second studio album, Peripheral Vision, was going to be played in full. Celebrating 10 years of this fan-favorite record, this was a night full of anticipation, varying emotions, nostalgia, and something a lot of fans have wanted to witness for quite some time.

With openers Horse Jumper of Love and Balance And Composure, this night was captivating from start to finish. Witnessing so much talent, raw emotion, and happiness all in one room is rare, and everyone attending this tour will be so lucky to experience it. Turnover put on a hell of a show, a performance unlike anything I had seen before, and will maybe never see again.

25 years of the best band in the world. That’s right folks, you heard it here. The Used have embarked on their 25 year anniversary tour, and are giving us everything we could want out of a tour. They are celebrating this milestone by playing 3 nights per city, performing their first 3 albums in full (The Used, In Love and Death, Lies for the Liars), 1 album per night. Giving special recognition per album, I was asked out to capture the magic of self titled The Used released in 2002 as well as Lies for the Liars released in 2007 at House of Blues Chicago.

Being able to make it out to 2 of the very first shows on this run, I feel honored to have witnessed the love, celebration, and enjoyment of two monumental albums in The Used’s legacy.

Which date will you be going to?

After years of anticipation, The Story So Far released their fifth studio album ‘I Want To Disappear’ in late June 2024. Not long after the drop and much positive feedback from fans, the band announced a US run to tour on the new release.

I was very lucky to catch the second show of the tour in Chicago at Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom on 11/22. With openers Koyo and Superheaven, both performed sets of unique sounds with heavy hitters, heavy riffs, and even heavier emotions.

When The Story So Far took stage, the energy in the room hit peak. Not a second between songs went by when there wasn’t a crowd surfer being passed up to barricade, a pit open in the middle of the venue, or fans screaming lyrics back to the band. This show celebrated the new sounds, older fan favorites, and everything in between.

Opening with “Big Blind” off the new record maneuvering into a classic “The Glass” off of What You Don’t See released in 2013 back into a middle ground of “Out of It” from Proper Dose released in 2018, new and old fans alike got to experience songs that truly shaped the pop-punk scene.

Ending the night with maybe one of their most notorious songs “Quicksand”, the energy and emotions stayed high every second leading up. Capturing this show behind the lens was an experience I am grateful to have gotten. Origami Angel is tying up their fall tour, but didn’t miss the chance to make a pitstop in Chicago last week.

With openers Forests, Macseal, and Arm’s Length, House of Blues was filled with back to back stacked sets with mosh pits, crowd surfing, tons of emotions, and a whole lot a’ fun!

Origami Angel delivered an unforgettable performance, packed with high energy and a deep connection to their fans. Their dynamic setlist seamlessly blended new hits with old favorites, creating a sound that resonated with new and old fans alike.

With only a few remaining dates on the fall tour left, I am already looking forward to when Origami Angel hit the road next

Shows in Philadelphia and New York still remain on 11/22 and 11/24 - catch them if you can!

With Sueco’s first independently released album, Attempted Lover, came a highly anticipated North American tour with stops starting in Florida making its way all the way to North Carolina.

Making a stop in Chicago at House of Blues, Sueco brought a unique ‘rock-hyperpop-rap’ sound with a killer show to accompany it. Playing a mixed setlist with plenty of songs from Attempted Lover to many off of his first album, to singles, and even a cover, there was a range for new fans and old ones alike to enjoy.

With the classic surfboard crowd surf, to fun fan interactions, heart-felt thanks, and everything in between, Sueco put on a hell of a show that I encourage you to catch if you can. Check out some highlights from the night below, and be sure to see if you can make it to any of the remaining tour dates.

Get ready — Warped Tour is officially making a return in 2025, marking its 30th anniversary with a series of two-day events across three cities. Founded in 1995, the iconic punk-rock festival went on its final cross-country run in 2018 and followed up with select anniversary shows in 2019. Now, the festival's creator, Kevin Lyman, is bringing it back with a fresh twist.

“People start remembering once something’s gone that it was important, it was fun — and I’m hoping to recapture a lot of that again,” Lyman told Rolling Stone. Warped Tour 2025 will begin in Washington, D.C. at the RFK Stadium Festival Grounds on June 14-15, followed by Long Beach, California at Marina Green Park on June 26-27, and wrap up in Orlando, Florida at Tinker Field on November 15-16.

Though the tour will only visit three cities, Lyman isn’t ruling out the possibility of more dates in the future, depending on the success of the 2025 run. “If it works, we’ll look to the future to do more,” he said.

The lineup for Warped Tour 2025 has yet to be revealed, but Lyman promises a blend of veteran bands and emerging talent. “We’re getting very, very selective in trying to find some unique twists to the lineup,” he noted. Each stop will feature between 70 to 100 bands.

Tickets for the two-day events will start at $149.98, with presales beginning on October 24 at 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT. Tickets can be purchased on Warped Tour’s official website. Lyman, partnering with Insomniac, is keeping prices affordable, setting the tour apart from more expensive festivals. The spirit of community will remain central, with nonprofit organizations, band merch booths, and fan-favorite events like the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands returning.

As in years past, Warped Tour will feature a strong sense of community, with nonprofit organizations, band merchandise tents, and interactive elements. “It’s band members talking to band members, and people saying, ‘I’m on, aren’t you on?’” Lyman shared, highlighting the camaraderie that has long defined the festival.

Lyman is eager to create a welcoming atmosphere for both new and returning fans. He plans to introduce new immersive experiences and community-building events, alongside familiar features like the inflatable set list. His vision remains rooted in the festival's original charm: “It’ll always remind you of that parking lot, that backyard party. That’s what Warped Tour was.”

It's officially spooky season, which means it’s the perfect time to dive into one of the wildest celebrity conspiracy theories out there: the idea that pop-punk princess Avril Lavigne died and was replaced by a look-alike named Melissa Vandella.

Crazy, right?

This bizarre theory first surfaced in 2005 and picked up serious momentum in 2011, thanks to fans piecing together supposed clues from Avril’s music and public appearances. The theory claims that after Lavigne’s sudden rise to fame in the early 2000s, she tragically passed away and was secretly replaced by Melissa, who was allegedly trained to mimic her perfectly.

So, is there any truth to this? As the details unfold, we’ll explore all the supposed evidence and decide if this spooky tale holds any weight—or if it's just a Halloween-worthy hoax.

Fun Fact: Weezer, formed in Los Angeles in 1991, initially struggled to fit in with the prevailing grunge and hair metal scenes, but they secured a record deal by June 1993, finding their niche in the alternative music landscape. Their breakthrough came when Rivers Cuomo, inspired by a friend being teased, wrote the iconic lines “What’s with these homies, dissing my girl?” for the song "Buddy Holly." Fans can expect to hear this track on the forthcoming illuminati hotties album titled POWER which is due out on August 23rd via Hopeless Records.

Memphis May Fire - “Necessary Evil”

The Offspring – “Light It Up”

This is the second release from the band’s upcoming album SUPERCHARGED which is due out on October 11th.

The Smashing Pumpkins drop new Aghori Mhori Mei album.

This is the Smashing Pumpkins’ 13th studio album which contains 10 new tracks. Frontman Billy Corgan says this album is a return to form for the band.

Papa Roach + Carrie Underwood - “Leave a Light On (Talk Away The Dark)”

Papa Roach and Carrie Underwood have collaborated on a new rendition of “Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)” to support suicide prevention and mental health awareness. Both artists will donate all royalties from the song indefinitely to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

In recent news of “shit I had no idea was a thing”, NPR News enlightened me with their piece on cemetery concerts and how they could start becoming more popular.

Here’s the gist

Across the United States, cemeteries are hosting concerts and social events, and transforming these traditionally solemn spaces into unique venues for community gatherings. For instance, a recent concert in Chicago featured Kim Gordon, former Sonic Youth leader, as part of her solo tour. Attendees enjoyed the unique atmosphere, blending a typical music festival vibe with the haunting backdrop of a cemetery, which many believe added to the musical experience.

However, not everyone is comfortable with cemeteries holding rock concerts. Some cemetery directors prefer more traditional and intimate performances, avoiding outdoor rock events to maintain respect for the deceased. Despite differing opinions, these events are helping cemeteries remain relevant and financially supported. After all, historically, cemeteries were social gathering spots, and this revival of activity through concerts and special events continues that tradition while, I guess you could say, blending the need to honor the dead with engaging the living.

Here’s my take

The practice of concerts at cemeteries sounds just plain weird. However, I will say that if it’s already happening, it’s definitely a good idea that they are holding these concerts after hours. I couldn’t imagine going to see a loved one’s gravesite only to hear the sounds of a Queen cover band performing “Another One Bites the Dust” off in the background. Although the song would be right on point, I’m not sure… wait, you know what? You’d have to tip your cap to the band on that one.

However, cemetery venues should be aware of the type of audiences specific genres could bring. For example, classical, folk, and jazz could work great as those types of songs are relaxing and bring the type of people who want to do just that — relax. On the flip side, rock music brings a different crowd — and a highly mixed bag of people at that. I mean, let’s be honest, the latter genre example is filled with immature teens who, at times, are up to no good and wouldn’t have any problems shying away from bringing their shenanigans to a place where respect is expected to be given.

In this day and age, venues rely heavily on alcohol sales and merchandise cuts for their revenue. However, selling alcohol during a cemetery concert is not a good idea. As long as these unique venues avoid selling the social lube, they should be able to maintain a respectful and successful environment for these types of settings. After all, I’d hate to see headstones getting knocked over or someone trying to humorously pour one out for Grandpa. Or even worse, some middle-aged rock fan getting so inebriated that he relieves himself on some other concertgoer’s grandmother’s grave. Unless grandma knowingly had a kinky thing for certain types of showers in her heyday, this for obvious reasons would not sit well with the grandchild.

While the idea of rocking out among the tombstones may sound bizarre, it’s clear that with a bit of careful planning and a strict no-party-juice policy, these events can strike the right chord. After all, a cemetery concert should be about enjoying music in a unique setting, not dealing with unruly fans or unexpected 'tributes' to the departed. So I say, do your thing cemeteries! Here’s to enjoying peaceful tunes amongst the moonlit tombstones, without the worry of a rogue rock fan turning Grandpa’s grave into an impromptu tinkle-relieving station.

Green Day – “Corvette Summer”

The track comes from Green Day’s recent album Saviors and features Hannibal Buress and Star Wars star Mark Hamill whom they apparently blew the video budget on. On the video, Green Day said, “The song was named after one of our favourite cult classic movies, so it only made sense to pay homage to it with the music video. We even took things one step further and got Mark Hamill – who starred in the original – to star in our remake alongside us, Hannibal Buress, and some others. We blew the entire budget on them, so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, some duct tape and matchbox cars we found in Tre’s basement.”

Grayscale – “Summer Clothes”

Goldfinger + Less Than Jake - “I Had Some Help” (Post Malone cover)

Oh look! More scene bands doing country songs. In our most recent podcast episode, I brought up how I’ve noticed a trend of country leaking into the scene as more artists are trying their hands at the genre. I’ve also been saying for years that pop punk could take a page out of country songwriting to really help connect with their audiences which would inevitably help the pop punk genre get over the hump and help get it back into mainstream. Looks like that is starting to happen.

MxPx - “Let's Ride”

Sydney Sprague - “Tell Me” ft. Kississippi

The new song is featured on Sprague’s upcoming deluxe version of her album somebody in hell still loves you, which is set to be released on September 13th via Rude Records.

To go along with this release, Touché Amoré has announced that they will release Spiral In A Straight Line on October 11th via Rise Records.

LØLØ - Vicious Love (New Found Glory Cover)

The cover is featured on Hopeless Records 30th anniversary compilation Hopelessly Devoted to You. This really is a stellar rendition of an already great song. I’ve been a fan of LØLØ’s for long time now. She really knows how to deliver and it’s only a matter of time before she hits the mainstream—she’s long overdue.

On this episode, Tyler and John discuss Disney's exciting announcement of a pop-punk covers album featuring beloved Disney songs. The boys then listen to and grade Simple Plan's cover of Elton John's "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", the album's debut track, for the first time and give their live reactions. Going in, neither one of them had high hopes for this song.

As for the new Disney album, no release date, track list, or participating artists have been revealed; although, a vinyl version is due out later this year.

Podcasts, it turns out, are subject to less stringent scrutiny. As a result, a simple search for popular artists under the "Podcasts & Shows" tab on Spotify often reveals unauthorized live recordings and remixes. Obviously this can be great for us music consumers looking for this type of content, but the real problem is that these uploads do not generate any royalties for the rightful owners of the music.

In doing my own testing, I noticed that simply typing “blink-182 live” into the search bar gave me the band’s complete ONE MORE TIME Tour show from March 15, 2024.

Additionally, typing in “taylor swift live” brings up, you guessed it, live Taylor Swift gigs from her Eras Tour.

The original article notes that typing in keywords and terms like “chopped and screwed,” “slowed and reverbed,” “remix,” and “mashup” will also help a user track down bootlegged material.

But probably the most absurd thing from this article was what a Spotify rep told Variety at the time:

“We take intellectual property infringement extremely seriously. Spotify has multiple detection measures in place monitoring abuse on the service to detect, investigate and deal with such activity. We are continuing to invest heavily in refining those processes and improving methods of detection and removal, and reducing the impact of this unacceptable activity on legitimate creators, rights holders and our users.”

If intellectual property infringement is taken so “extremely seriously”, then why just less than four years later (currently 2024 at the time of publishing this post), is this still a problem?
