10 songs to listen to when you're down
May is known as being Mental Health Awareness month. The purpose of this month is to educate the public of mental health illnesses and in addition to helping come to an understanding of the realities of those living with mental health illnesses, such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder. In addition, to the previously mentioned purposes, another goal is to help draw attention to suicide; which is often brought on by many other mental illnesses. In addition to the above-listed goals, there is a big importance in trying to reduce the stigmas that are surrounding these illnesses in society today.
But why is it important to write or even talk about mental health illnesses? Mental Health illnesses, regardless of what we may think, affect us all in one way or another. We may see it in our own lives, our dear family or friends lives, or may even know someone who lost their battle with these illnesses.

It's important to remember that we are all human. First of all, we do not always need to be happy and second, we are allowed to show sadness. Regardless of society's belief of sadness, it's not a sign of "weakness" to talk about being sad. In other words, It's okay to not be okay. It's okay to have ups and downs with good and bad days. That's the beauty of life, it helps shape us to the people are and who we are to become.
