Get to know Milestones. You'll be glad you did.
"Who is Milestones?" One awesome Fearless Records band you need to check out.
British quintet, Milestones, were part of a rich wave of young U.K. punk bands when they debuted in 2014. Their emotional and melodic sound attracted the ear of record company Fearless Records, where they signed in 2016. The band also just recently finished Mayday Parade's 10 Year Anniversary Tour.
We had the chance to ask the band some questions and get a closer look into the question of "Who is Milestones?" Unfortunately, the day that the in person interview was set to happen, I fell ill and was unable to go through with the interview. But Milestones guitarist Drew Procter was kind enough to answer some questions via email.
*Answers/questions were slightly edited for clarity
How did you guys meet and form the band?
All of us were in bands and part of the local scene at the time and we'd played shows with each other before but had never met. Each one of us had left those bands because we wanted something a lot more serious and something that was going to take us around the world touring. I met Matt [Clarke] and Mark [Threlfall] through mutual friends from playing shows. Then, after the three of us auditioned about 30 different people to play guitar for the band, I eventually met Eden [Leviston] at college where we were in the same course.
How did you come up with your band name?
Something we all had in common from the start of Milestones was wanting to be in a band that had a really strong work ethic. We felt like the name really represented us as people because we're always wanting to get to that next step whether it's writing better songs, seeing how much energy we can get out of a crowd or how many countries we can tour before the year is out.
What artists inspired your sound?
If I had to narrow it down, You Me At Six, Bring Me The Horizon, Paramore and Fall Out Boy. Our sound is definitely influenced by a lot albums from 10 years ago.
Every musician has a reason behind their passion. What's yours?
When I was a kid the prospect of traveling around the world and playing music to people just seemed like the coolest thing ever to me. Now, walking on stage each and every night, I still have that same passion of wanting every person in the room to feel something when they're watching us play, knowing that the day after I'll be somewhere completely different getting to do that again.
What was your favorite part of being on the "10-Year Anniversary Tour?"
A Lesson In Romantics was an album that everyone in the band grew up listening to, and it was pretty influential for us writing music for Milestones too. Honestly, getting to see that record played from front to back each night was the highlight of that tour for me.
What was your favorite part of being in the U.S. for the first time?
There's too much I could mention here (laughs). For me, it was the first time ever being in the states so just being able to explore all of the music cities like LA, Seattle and Nashville was pretty surreal because I'd grown up watching so many documentaries about some of my favourite bands/artists starting up in those places. I think one of the best parts of touring the U.S for the band was how supportive people are for new music. Also, being able to get people into your music and what the band is about night after night was extremely rewarding.
What do you want your fans, as well as the people reading this who are just hearing about you guys for the first time, to know about Milestones?
We're releasing new music soon so stay tuned.
We'd like to give a big "thank you" to Milestones and Fearless Records for taking the time to make this interview happen. Milestones' debut EP, Equal Measures, is available now.
