Fun Fact: Collective Soul’s hit song "Shine" started as one of the many demos lead singer Ed Roland was recording in his basement. At the time, Roland was a struggling musician trying to land a publishing deal. There was no band and he had no intention of forming one. However, he gave the demos to his brother to take back to college in hopes of getting one of them played on the college’s radio station. “Shine” ended up being that song, and it didn’t take long for it to gain some unexpected popularity. The song’s popularity then led to the formation of the band and their subsequent signing with Atlantic Records. And the rest is history.
