Fun Fact: The Goo Goo Dolls got their name from an ad in True Detective magazine for a toy called a Goo Goo Doll. However, bassist and vocalist Robby Takac said that the band needed a new name after a club owner refused to put their original name, Sex Maggots, on his marquee. Frontman Johnny Rzeznik said, to play the gig "we had to come up with some kind of a name just to play the show." They thought it would be a funny and ironic name for a punk band, and it stuck ever since. Johnny has gone on the record saying he regrets the name.
