New releases worth checking out today! (3/22/24)
Here are some of this week's new music and video releases worthy of your attention.
Fun fact: Ariana Grande’s grandmother, Marjorie “Nonna” Grande, at 98, has become the oldest person to grace the Billboard Hot 100 with her appearance on Ariana’s track “Ordinary Things” from the singer’s recently released album Eternal Sunshine. The song secured the 55th spot on this week's chart, marking a historic moment. This achievement surpasses the previous record set by Fred Stobaugh at 96 with “Oh Sweet Lorraine” and Tony Bennett's stint at 87 with “Body and Soul” alongside Amy Winehouse in 2011.
Now for the new releases.
This week, the music scene sees some fresh releases that are worthy of a listen. From emerging artists to mainstay icons, let’s dive into the latest tracks making waves in the world of alternative music, and maybe you’ll end up finding your next favorite tune. Let's get right into it.
The Story So Far - “Letterman”
California pop-punk band The Story So Far has announced that their new album I Want To Disappear drops June 21st on Pure Noise Records, featuring both their 2023 single "Big Blind" and the recently released new track "Letterman."
Hot Mulligan - “Stickers of Brian”
Hot Mulligan is currently touring with Fall Out Boy and gearing up for their summer UK festival appearances, but that didn’t stop them from releasing new single "Stickers Of Brian".
LØLØ - “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” (Green Day cover)
Canadian pop-punk artist LØLØ delivered a heartfelt acoustic cover of Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" for the Recording Academy's ReImagined series, a fitting tribute considering her lifelong love for the band's music.
The Dirty Nil - “Am I The Menace?”
The Dirty Nil are back with a new single, "Am I The Menace?", following news of their North American tour supporting The Gaslight Anthem. The song is part of the upcoming deluxe edition of their album Free Rein To Passions, out April 4th on Dine Alone Records.
The Home Team - “Hell”
Another heavy-pop track from The Home Team has been released. “Hell” is the follow-up to singles "Brag" and Loud." Frontman Brian Butcher has this to say about the new song: “‘Hell’ is a big ‘ol’ whopping leap into songwriting territory that we’re very familiar with, but in a completely new package. This is one of those songs that we didn’t really set out to make, but just came together in a great way. We had plenty of “Aha!” moments during the process, and we ended up with a song that we’ve got a lot of faith in. We’re anticipating that this will satiate our heavy music listeners pretty well.”
The Home Team is one band I’m super excited about. No one is doing what they are doing and I truly feel like their sound is ready for the mainstream and deserves a spot in a Top 40 rotation.
Pearl Jam - “Running”
Pearl Jam has released a new track called “Running”. It’s the second single from their upcoming album, Dark Matter, which is set to drop on April 19th.
The Veronicas - Gothic Summer
The Veronicas have released their new album Gothic Summer. The John Feldmann-produced record is a solid pop-rock album and is the Australian duo’s first international album release in ten years.
Olivia Rodrio - Guts (spilled)
Olivia Rodrigo has released the deluxe version of her Guts album. To go along with the release, she has released a new music video for new song “obsessed” which you can watch above. You can stream Rodrigo’s new album here.
408 - Hot Mess
408 has released their new album Hot Mess. Above is the next single they are pushing called “Girl of My Dreams”.
408 is another band that I think we should all be watching. When it comes to pop-punk, this band just gets it.
Girl In Red - “You Need Me Now?” ft. Sabrina Carpenter
The latest track from Girl In Red is quite the break-up anthem and features heavy hitter Sabrina Carpenter. It’s the third song from her upcoming sophomore album I’m Doing It Again Baby!, which drops April 12th on Columbia Records.
Cassadee Pope - “Eye Contact”
Cassadee Pope continues on her pop-punk journey with a new song called “Eye Contact”.
Softcult - “Spiralling Out”
Another band I can’t get enough of. I feel like their music would’ve fit so nicely in the 90s grunge era. They make some really nostalgic yet modern sounds. I love this duo.
That’ll do it for this week! Happy listening.
Let me know in the comments what your favorite release of the week is. I would love to hear your thoughts.
