14 new music releases worth checking out today!
It was a quiet week, but here are some of this week's new music and video releases worthy of your attention.
Fun Fact: Have you ever wondered which band has rocked the same lineup for the longest time? That means no member swaps, no replacements, just pure musical consistency. Believe it or not, U2 holds the record for the longest-running band with the same members. Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr., and Adam Clayton have been rocking together since their first gig in 1978, that's 46 years of unchanged awesomeness! Who comes in second? That would be Radiohead (39 years) who had their first performance as a band in 1985.
Now for the new releases.
This week, the music scene sees some fresh releases worthy of a listen. From emerging artists to mainstay icons, let’s dive into the latest tracks making waves in the world of alternative music, and maybe you’ll end up finding a few of your next favorite tunes. So in no particular order, let's get right into it.
Thursday - “Application For Release From The Dream“
Thursday is back with their first song in 13 years. The band recently shared a reflection on the past 25 years stating: “That’s 25 years since we set out in a small white van to play basements and VFW Halls – attics, kitchens and back yards – with a bunch of burned CDRs marked in black Sharpie: Summer Tour ’99.”
“In those 25 years, there were so many highway breakdowns, so many emergency rooms, run-ins with the law. So much time laughing in the studio, so many hours huddled together backstage or loading gear in the rain. And yes, 25 years of legal disputes and public blowouts.
“But now we are free. Free to make our own mistakes. Free to turn this band into whatever we dream it to be, whether we want to make it a collective of rotating members, a small cottage industry, a publishing house, a record label, or just a group of friends still having fun together after all these years.”
No word on what’s next just yet, but enjoy the new single.
Mest - “When We Were Young” ft. Bowling for Soup
Mest is back with this brand new track. The band has spent the last two years writing/recording the first of three LPs which will come out this year with the first one titled Youth.
Bowling for Soup - “Don't You Want Me” (feat. Rival Town & The Anti-Queens)
Bowling For Soup does covers well. And here’s one of The Human League’s 1981 hit “Don’t You Want Me”. No word on whether or not this cover is part of a larger project just yet.
Belmont - “Day By Day”
Belmont's new album Liminal is out today! Take a listen and check them out on tour in the US in the spring - dates here.
RedHook - “Breaking Up With”
The new song will be part of an upcoming album to be announced in the coming months. On the new track, vocalist Emmy Mack has explained: “Rather than revelling in being a total piece of shit, this one is about breaking that cycle of self-hate, forgiving your past mistakes, and just deciding to be bloody kinder to yourself.”
Scene Queen and 6arelyhuman - “Stuck“
The track is off Scene Queen’s forthcoming and highly-anticipated debut album Hot Singles In Your Area, which is set for release this spring via Hopeless Records.
Hot Water Music - “Side Of The Road” and ”Chewing On Broken Glass”
The songs will be featured on Hot Water Music’s upcoming album which was produced by Brian McTernan, and includes features Thrice, Dallas Green of City and Colour and Alexisonfire, The Interrupters, and Turnstile’s Daniel Fang and Brendan Yates.
The Spill Canvas - “Ruiner”
Taylor Acorn - “Greener”
Lindsey Stirling - “Inner Gold“ ft. Royal & The Serpent
The track comes from from Lindsey Stirling’s new album Duality which is due out on June 14th via Concord Records.
Letters Sent Home - “Request Denied”
Ok, this song came out 5 months ago, but I feel like I need to share this band with you. I literally just came across them 5 minutes ago as I type this. And they just released their new album Ignorance via Sharp Tone Records. I bet you’ll dig them.
Collective Soul - “Mother’s Love”
This certainly sounds like a Collective Soul song. The track comes from their upcoming double album Here to Eternity which will be out on May 17th.
ERNEST - “Creep” ft Hardy (Radiohead Cover)
If you’re interested in a re-imagined country version of Radiohead’s hit “Creep”, you’re in luck. Country artists Ernest and Hardy have teamed up to give us just that. It’s a pretty good rendition if I do say so myself. I could see this one climbing up the charts.
That’ll do it for this week! Happy listening.
