It’s time for another mailer! This mailer may look a little different than past ones as I tried adding a little bit more meat in order to try and save readers a click. Let me know if you prefer this format and I’ll do my best to continue pushing these types of newsletters.

All of this and much more below!
STOP WEARING BAND TEES TO CONCERTS!! + Which Drive-Thru bands are making comebacks?
This week, John and Tyler debate over whether or not it's ok to wear a band’s t-shirt when going to one of their concerts. Going in, they knew they lived on different sides of the aisle when it comes to this topic, so trying to convince each other was not easy. But before that, they take the time to review some new tunes released this week, as well as discuss some old Drive-Thru Records bands doing some teasing that they need to fill you in on.

ICYMI: blink-182 album release date? + Fall Out Boy retiring? + Fans most likely to have sex in trucks. This was a fun podcast episode to record. And I have to say, this has been my favorite non-interview episode to record so far.
Something I definitely recommend to everyone: New Year’s Resolutions: how to be a better music listener in 2023. It’s a lot more fun when you dive into newer music, as well as back catalogs. Also, spend time learning about the history of some of your favorite songs and bands. So much in a quick read in the article above.
Olivia Rodrigo shares new video in the studio: “Working on so many new songs”. I’m curious to see what Olivia’s sophomore album direction will be. She had some pop-punkish type songs on her last one. Will she lean more that way again or does she have something else planned? Either way, I’m sure this next album will be a hit. Definitely, someone to keep an eye on in 2023 when it comes to the top-tier artists.

Ascend Agency is at the Forefront of Playlist Marketing for Indie Artists. The idea of getting your band on playlists I think is one of the key ingredients to cooking up some success. It’s not the main ingredient, but one that can definitely help you stand out from the rest.
Good Charlotte team up with Psychedelic Water: I have to say I’m a little intrigued by this product. According to its website, Psychedelic Water is a mood-altering beverage that is non-hallucinogenic and won't make you trip like LSD or shrooms. The herbs used offer a mild, calming sensation that simply makes you feel good—usually, within 5-15 minutes of sipping. It’s also geared towards “creatives, mavericks, groundbreakers, risk-takers, and free-thinkers”.
Why is Spotify full of faster versions of pop hits? Well, this is interesting. Apparently, there is a market for sped-up versions of songs. It’s not for me, but maybe it is for you. Looking on TikTok, the hashtag “spedupsounds” has over 9.6 billion views. And it looks like there are some benefits to older artists’ songs getting sped up as “the TikTok craze saw some [songs’ popularities] soar in 2022. Sped-up songs have the potential to breathe new life – and push new listeners – to older songs that might otherwise be forgotten.”
