Taylor Swift Is the Least of Ticketmaster’s Worries After Senate Hearing: The US Senate Judiciary Committee is investigating whether Live Nation and Ticketmaster's merger in 2010 has led to a monopoly in the ticketing industry. The senators argue that if the two companies did not have such market dominance, greater competition would force the company to innovate and improve its services, potentially avoiding such problems as the one that spoiled Taylor Swift's tour last November. The senators see taking on Ticketmaster as a winning political issue and an opportunity to reach constituents who have long complained about the ticketing giant.
Following Ticketmaster Hearings, Ineffable Music Cuts Merch Fees for Bands at Its Venues: Ineffable Music Group CEO, Thomas Cussins, has decided to take action by eliminating merch fees for bands at 10 venues owned and operated by Ineffable Live. This decision will cost the company several hundred thousand dollars per year in revenue, but the CEO hopes to make it up via a healthier concert ecosystem. He believes eliminating the venue fee can save some artists $1,000 to $2,000 per night, making a big difference in a business where the margins in merchandise are vital to the economic feasibility of touring.
