News you may have missed! (2/5/21)
Marilyn Manson accused of sexual misconduct, dropped from label. Hayley Williams tells superfan to leak new song. Another festival canceled.
Hey! Welcome back to another mailer. We’re going to be testing out some new things with this newsletter. I’m going to try and start adding more content to the news pieces we share here weekly. So instead of only providing a headline with a link to the article, we’re going to add more information to go along with some of those headlines so you don’t HAVE to click away to read more.
I feel like doing this will only provide more value to you, the subscriber and reader of this newsletter—and that’s exactly what I’ve intended to provide since starting this weekly mailer.
So with that said, let’s try this out and see how it goes. But first, some shameless self-promotion…

There was no new episode this week, but here is last week’s…
Tyler, John and Bailey reminisce about the pre and post-inauguration concerts from Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters and New Radicals. They also discuss how Green Day fans needed to remind pro-Trump TikTokers that “American Idiot” isn’t about what they think it is. Tyler brings up a humorous story about how nu-metal band Korn almost named their band something else and way less cool. The crew also brings up the 25th anniversary of Fueled By Ramen and then discusses Machine Gun Kelly’s recent personal UFO experiences which leads to the three of them asking the question: do aliens exist?

Marilyn Manson dropped from label after Evan Rachel Wood and four other women accuse singer of sexual misconduct
In a recent Instagram post, actress Evan Rachel Wood identified Marilyn Manson as her abuser stating:
“The name of my abuser is Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson. He started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. I was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I am done living in fear of retaliation, slander, or blackmail. I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent.”
In a show of solidarity, at least four other women posted their own allegations against Manson, detailing harrowing experiences that they claim included sexual assault, psychological abuse, and/or various forms of coercion, violence, and intimidation.
After the allegations were brought to light. Manson’s record label, Loma Vista, dropped the rocker from their roster. The singer was also reportedly cut from Shudder’s horror anthology TV series Creepshow and another show he has ties too.
Manson has released his own statement on the allegations stating:
“Obviously, my art and my life have long been magnets for controversy, but these recent claims about me are horrible distortions of reality. My intimate relationships have always been entirely consensual with like-minded partners. Regardless of how - and why - others are now choosing to misrepresent the past, that is the truth.”

Hayley Williams Told Superfan to Leak Song after Hand Delivery
Hayley Williams released a new song this week titled “My Limb”, but not after she hand delivered the track to one lucky superfan and told them to leak the song.
The Rundown:
Williams and her dog Alf drove a CD with her new track and one of her Sanctuary Candles over to Nashville neighbor and superfan, Carly Butler.
While documenting the delivery, Hayley says, "Okay, we're going to drop off a Sanctuary candle and a burnt copy of one of the songs to Carly in Nashville right now."
As she approaches Butler’s residence, Hayley places the CD in Butler's mailbox and drives away honking to get Butler’s attention.
After receiving the surprise delivery, Butler did her part and tweeted, “did hayley williams drive to your house and drop off a candle and a cd with her new song on it or are you having a normal night.”
If you haven’t heard the new track “My Limb”, you can check that out below.
Spotify Wants to Listen to Everything You Say to Recommend Music
I’m sorry. What? Apparently, Spotify wants to listen to you talk throughout the day so the streaming service can better recommend music and content to you. Oh, and they’ve been granted a patent to begin doing just that.
My opinion? No thanks.
The patent outlines potential uses of technology that involves the extraction of “intonation, stress, rhythm, and the likes of units of speech” from the user’s voice. The tech could also use speech recognition to identify metadata points such as emotional state, gender, age, accent, and even environment—i.e., whether someone is alone, or with other people—based on audio recording.
Spotify already has some of this information on its users already, but listening in on our daily lives to gain more of this info is a bit much.

Coachella postponed for the third time in twelve months
It’s been announced that The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival will not go ahead in April 2021. Coachella was scheduled to happen on two consecutive weekends of April 9–11 and 16–18.
This marks the third time that the festival has been rescheduled or cancelled in the last twelve months. The first time was last March when the April event was pushed to October. The second time was moving that new October date to the now cancelled April 2021 date.
Reasons for the cancellation is due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“This order is intended to reduce the likelihood of exposure to COVID-19, thereby slowing the spread of COVID-19 in communities worldwide. If COVID-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk.”
