A New Album Hasn’t Cracked the Billboard Top 10 in Three Weeks
Say what?
It's the longest period without a top 10 debut since 2000 for the Charts.
For the third week in a row, no albums debuted in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. The chart last housed top 10 arrivals on the Feb. 20-dated list, when Foo Fighters’ Medicine at Midnight and Pooh Shiesty’s Sheisty Season debuted at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
The last time the chart went without top 10 debuts for three straight weeks was in January of 2019 for the Jan. 12, 19 and 26-dated charts (thanks to a quiet post-Christmas release schedule).
The last time the top 10 was absent of debuts for three weeks in a row outside of the post-Christmas period was on the charts dated Dec. 16, 23 and 30, 2000 (when the chart ranked titles only by album sales, before it transitioned to a multi-metric consumption ranking in December 2014). In 2000, the only album released after Thanksgiving (Nov. 23) to bow in the top 10 was Snoop Dogg’s Tha Last Meal, which was released on Dec. 19 and debuted at No. 9 on the Jan. 6, 2001-dated chart.
Sum 41 playing MTV’s 20th Anniversary show resurfaces
And it’s worth the watch.
Loudwire says it was the night Rob Halford and Tommy Lee Broke Sum 41. That could be true. However, Sum 41 was already on the way to breaking out.
On Aug. 1, 2001, MTV celebrated its 20th anniversary with a live concert featuring some of the biggest names in music. Just months after the release of their breakout album, All Killer No Filler, a relatively unknown Sum 41 recruited Judas Priest’s Rob Halford and Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee for an electric performance, paying respect to the artists who inspired the pop-punk newcomers.
Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley recently reflected on the night stating:
“This was a dream come true, and also the performance that changed our lives forever. We were fairly unknown at the time when we were asked to open the MTV 20th anniversary special. ["Fat Lip"] had been out for a few months and was doing decently well but we were still a new band to the public. We were asked originally to just perform ["Fat Lip"], but we had the idea (inspired by past MTV collaboration performances we’d seen) to reach out and ask if some of our favorite artists might do a cool medley with us.”
“We knew it was a tall order and we didn’t really expect much more than a friendly decline, but to our surprise Tommy Lee and Rob Halford said yes! … We got to NYC a couple of days before the show, met up with Halford and Tommy for the first time to run through the medley and then, very nervously got up onstage and opened the show 2 nights later. From the second that song ended it felt like everything had changed. The response [from] the audience in that room was incredible. So many people from MTV and the industry in general were coming up to us praising the performance and treating us like huge stars all of a sudden … within a week of that night, ["Fat Lip"] was being played in heavy rotation all over the world and turned that song into [No. 1] hit. Nothing has ever been the same since that night.”

Ex-NFG member convicted of indecent exposure & Adam Levine says bands are a “dying breed”
This week, Natalie, Bailey and Tyler discuss the conclusion of ex-New Found Glory songwriter and guitarist Steve Klein’s 6-year long legal problems as he was convicted of indecent exposure after misconduct with minors allegations . On a lighter note, the crew also talks about how Billboard Charts will now count Facebook video streams towards their tallies, Square acquiring a majority stake in Tidal, and Maroon 5’s Adam Levine’s comments about how bands are a “dying breed”. The three of them also share their thoughts on A Day to Remember’s new album ‘You’re Welcome’ and whether or not Angels & Airwaves next album is going to live up to the hype.

Foo Fighters Accidentally Had 'Wrong Nick' Produce Album
For real?! Imagine accidentally getting that call.
Speaking with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, the group recalled Nick Raskulinecz becoming a producer on their One By One album kind of by accident. Drummer Taylor Hawkins told Lowe, "Dave [Grohl] accidentally called the wrong Nick. Nick Raskulinecz showed up and that guy who produced it and he just was a great cheerleader for us, you know? And, he really was enthusiastic about us."
Grohl then revealed, "I meant to call Nick Oliveri, who was the bass player of Queens of the Stone Age and my friend Nick Raskulinecz answered. I knew him from Sound City, he's a great engineer. He had worked at that studio for years."
That One By One album? It went on to reach the No. 3 spot on the Billboard Charts as it was home to songs like "All My Life," "Times Like These" and "Low." And Nick Raskulinecz? Since the accidental producer job, he’s only went on to produce albums from Stone Sour, Rush, Trivium, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Evanescence, Ghost, Mastodon, Korn, Halestorm, Rise Against and more.
Machine Gun Kelly Wants to 'Piss People Off All Over Again'
In a recent interview with Nicole Alvarez of KROQ, Machine Gun Kelly said he wants to "break the mold of everything I just did and piss people off all over again."
He goes on to say, “Even when I say, ‘Break the mould and piss people off all over again,’ I just mean make them think again; make them have a moment of, ‘This artist is so polarizing [that] I have to tune in.’
“I don’t want to be bored with an artist, and I think Kanye [West]’s a great example of that: we all have moments of sitting at dinner tables talking about Kanye and being like, ‘I didn’t like this!’ or, ‘I loved this!’ or, ‘Why is he doing that?!’ But I’ll tell you what, man. We’re still talking about him and we know that there’s greatness in there behind it.
“When Prince passed, seeing that everything even in the ’80s when maybe people were like, ‘This doesn’t make any sense…’ seeing how it made so much sense in the years leading up to his death and the years after, that’s a legacy worth fighting for,. It’s not gonna be easy, and I’m aware of that. I’m happy to keep breaking the mold.”
