OUT NOW: blink-182 fans need to stop being so damn obsessive + Our Fall Out Boy album review
This week we review Fall Out Boy's new album. But when it comes to news, we discuss some more bad news for Mod Sun and Machine Gun Kelly, as well as news about a fan being handpicked by an artist at a concert not once, but TWICE on two separate occasions. We’re also going to discuss the obsessiveness of blink-182 fans and then after Taylor Swift’s first Eras Tour concert lasting over 3 hours, we’ll share whether or not we think blink-182 should follow suit with lengthy gigs of their own.

Would you rather be able to attend any concert or music event for free, or be able to meet and hang out with your favorite musician for an hour? Would you rather listen to only one song for the rest of your life or never listen to music again? Listen here.

Spotify Only Spent 10% of Its $100 Million Diversity Fund in the Past Year. Spotify's Creator Equity Fund initiative, which pledged $100 million to support historically marginalized artists, has spent only 10% of its budget, according to reports. The fund was set up after controversy surrounding Joe Rogan's podcast last year, and Spotify CEO Daniel Ek had promised that the company would use the fund to invest in music and other audio content from historically marginalized groups. However, the initiative has struggled to take off, with reports suggesting that the budget and priority projects are still being finalized. Some critics have accused Spotify of lacking commitment to the fund and its values, while others have raised questions about the company's previous initiatives, such as Loud & Clear, which aimed to support artists with higher royalty payments.
The music industry makes $26bn but wants streaming prices to rise. The global music industry experienced its eighth consecutive year of growth, reaching a record-high revenue of $26.6bn in 2022, largely driven by the growth of streaming services. Streaming accounted for two-thirds of the industry's earnings, with the number of people paying for subscriptions to these services rising to 589 million since 2021. Physical format sales also rose by 4%, generating $4.6bn in revenues, almost half of which came from Asia. Record labels are pushing for higher streaming prices, citing inflation and undervaluation, and monetizing other forms of music consumption, such as licensing songs to video games and fitness companies. Despite the industry's growth, the total number of self-releasing artists earning over $10,000 in royalties fell year-on-year, while the total number of artists on both labels and self-releasing that generated over $10,000 on Spotify grew.

Ronnie Radke responds to Spiritbox dropping out of Falling In Reverse tour. Spiritbox has withdrawn from the six shows they were scheduled to perform on Falling In Reverse's 'Popular Monstour' tour, which has led to their replacement by Our Last Night. Although Spiritbox did not give a reason for their cancellation, it followed the ongoing controversy surrounding Falling In Reverse's frontman Ronnie Radke's behavior. Radke has faced several allegations of abuse, rape, assault, and transphobia in the past, which he has denied. However, he has spent two-and-a-half years in prison for battery from 2008-2010. Despite the rumors, Radke did not talk trash about Spiritbox for dropping out of the tour, instead expressing sympathy for them stating “Courtney [LaPlante] and rest of [Spiritbox] are so sweet, I feel sorry for them as some of their fans are awful.”

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong launches new Les Paul Junior guitar. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong has partnered with Gibson to recreate his beloved guitar, the 1950s Les Paul Junior. The 2023 model has a P-90 DC Dogear pickup, which is said to better capture the sound of Armstrong's 1956 guitar. Armstrong said the Les Paul Junior has been the root of his guitar tone for over 20 years and that it is a simple, raw, and powerful guitar that cannot be beat.
