Spotify is raising prices for lots of its plans
It was bound to happen eventually, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the other music streaming platforms following suit, but for now Spotify is rolling out price hikes on its plans.
Spotify is increasing the price of many of its subscriptions this week across the UK and parts of Europe, with the US seeing a hike to Family plans. Subscribers have started to receive emails informing them of the changes, and they will affect Student, Duo, and Family plans across parts of Europe and the UK, and Family subscriptions in the US from April 30th. Single Spotify Premium subscriptions are unaffected.
Spotify family is increasing from $14.99 to $15.99 per month in the US. Fortunately, Duo, Premium, and Student pricing will remain the same... for now.
I mentioned on a recent podcast episode, that I can see Spotify eventually increasing its payouts per stream rate to artists within the next year. Could this be a way for the streaming service to start paying artists more? Possibly. In order to pay artists more, it only makes sense to make its consumers pay more so they can afford it.
The Verge continues:
Spotify confirmed the increases in a statement to The Verge, and it’s likely we’ll see US pricing changes shortly, too. “We offer a variety of subscription plans tailored to our users’ needs, and we occasionally update our prices to reflect local macroeconomic factors and meet market demands while offering an unparalleled service,” says a Spotify spokesperson.
I wonder if one of those factors or demands includes paying artists more? We’ll see.
Facebook and Spotify making it easier for artists to get streams? + New details on upcoming Stand Atlantic song
Bailey and Tyler bring you Episode 34 of The All Punked Up Podcast this week. They open the show with new music reviews from Weezer, Wolf Alice, K.Flay, Chris DeMakes and Hot Mulligan. Bailey also shares an incident in where he was recently unwantedly grinded on by an older woman at an event he was working.
Tyler did some digging and found out what Stand Atlantic has been teasing. He found out when Stand Atlantic's new song will be released, the name of said song and who will be featured on it. If you're as excited about Stand Atlantic as Tyler is, then you'll want to listen in for this.
As for the news this week, Facebook and Spotify are deepening their partnership as Facebook will be adding an update that could make it easier for artists and podcasters to get their stream and download numbers up.
