Additionally, for our Random Thoughts portion of the newsletter, I tackle the “issue” bands have with fans recording their live sets. Spoiler: The bands are the real issue here.

All Punked Up specific news…
The website made a shift to a new host about 1 month ago. You may remember, after I moved the website over to a new host, that for a good two month period (March-April) that the site would intermittently go down. In some instances it was down for nearly 3 hours at a time. Since moving to another newer host in May, I haven’t noticed any downtime. That’s a huge plus. That two month period was super frustrating.
Moving to a new host that was capable of running All Punked Up is huge. It now allows me to focus on the next step for this brand. Again, I know what that next step is. I’m excited to announce it. I know I keep eluding to it in these newsletters, but I promise that the announcement will be soon. I’ll probably be doing a little teasing before making the official announcement because, well, that’s the thing to do, right?
15 songs All Punked Up was digging this week…

Random Thoughts…
Bands, stop whining about fans recording your live sets
I think it’s funny when bands complain about concert-goers using their phones to record their live sets. They all say the same dumb thing about how an attendee should get off of their phones to “live in the moment” and “be present” at the show. Whenever I see an article from Alt Press, NME or wherever about a band member complaining about this, I just laugh and roll my eyes.
Listen band members: times have changed. Everyone is on their phones now. Whether that’s good or bad doesn’t really matter for this thought, but what does matter is that it is reality.
I wonder if bands that complain about this behavior ever wondered if this is how we “live in the moment” now? Maybe this is a way to “be present” more than ever now by capturing a “moment” that “lives” on forever?
I also wonder if bands know how good it is for them for concert-goers to be recording these moments. We live in a digital age where sharing content across social media is the norm and where “share the video or it didn’t happen” is a motto that’s lived by. I’d guess that most of these attendees that are recording bands’ sets are sharing their videos across multiple social media platforms. Wake up, bands. That’s free advertisement. It’s organic reach.
So my message to bands (old and new) who whine and complain about their fans recording their live sets: get over it. Concentrate on putting together a great set. That’s what we’ve paid you to do anyways. You do your job and we’ll experience the show how we want after spending our own money to see you. You keep doing you and we’ll keep doing us. After all, without our money, you don’t have a job.
Thank you!
