TikTok Launches Emerging Artist Program Elevate. TikTok has launched 'Elevate,' a program aimed at supporting emerging artists by promoting them within the app and sponsoring in-person events. The inaugural class includes CHINCHILLA, Sam Barber, Omar Courtz, Isabel LaRosa, Kaliiii, and Lu Kala, representing diverse genres and backgrounds, both signed and unsigned. The program will offer in-app promotion through musicontiktok handles and host concerts in the artists' hometowns until October. Additionally, the company's music distribution service, SoundOn, helps independent artists get their music on various streaming platforms. TikTok's unique discoverability and fan engagement set Elevate apart from similar programs on other platforms, making it an exciting opportunity for emerging talents. Further details about the program will be revealed in the coming months.
Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Soon Change Its Logo to ‘X’. And only because it’s one of the main ways bands and fans can interact with each other, it’s worth mentioning. Elon Musk announced his plan to change Twitter's logo from the famous blue bird to an "X". He aims to implement the change worldwide as soon as Monday. Musk has a history with the letter "X," having used it for his companies SpaceX and X.com, now known as PayPal. However, the move was met with criticism on Twitter, with many users finding it confusing and a sign of the unwinding of the iconic brand. Additionally, Twitter is facing competition from Meta's new app, Threads, which attracted 100 million sign-ups in its first five days of launch.
Spotify to Raise Individual Subscription Price by $1 in the United States. Spotify will raise the price of its individual subscription in the United States by $1, from $9.99 to $10.99. The move was widely anticipated, as Spotify executives expressed their eagerness to raise prices without deterring customers. The company has maintained the $9.99 price since its launch in the US in 2011, except for a previous increase in its family plan in 2021. The decision to raise prices likely stems from negotiations with major music industry stakeholders. Assuming the increase doesn't lead to subscriber churn, it is expected to boost top-line revenues and improve music gross margins, potentially adding around $200 million in incremental annual revenue, according to JPMorgan Chase analysts.
Chvrches’ Lauren Mayberry Announces First Solo Tour. The singer announced that she will embark on her first solo tour, starting in North America in September and later moving to the United Kingdom and Europe in the fall. She also revealed that she has been working on her first-ever solo music and will be sharing it with the world soon. Mayberry expressed a mix of excitement, fear, and bewilderment about this new venture.
The Touring Business Is Booming — But Problems Linger for Smaller Acts. Touring for small and mid-range acts has evolved from an emotional nightmare during the pandemic to a booming and healthy business. However, the surge in artists hitting the road in 2023 has caused supply-and-demand challenges, particularly with vehicles and crew. Difficulty in procuring buses, especially on short notice, remains a significant issue due to a shortage of drivers and increased demand. Prices for vehicles and crew have risen substantially, impacting tour budgets. Despite the challenges, artists are finding ways to adapt, with some even starting their own bus-rental companies to mitigate costs. While the touring industry is showing signs of recovery, some managers remain cautiously optimistic about its economic future.
Ronnie Radke Gets Brutally Honest With Falling in Reverse Openers. And I have to say, his response is correct… Falling in Reverse's Ronnie Radke gave honest advice to the local band Become the Apex, who won the chance to open for Falling in Reverse at an upcoming show. The band was unhappy with their starting time and asked for Radke's help stating: “Hey Ronnie Radke my band won a battle of the bands to open up for you on July 26th in Idaho (X-Fest) & they’re telling us they want us to start our set 15 minutes after doors. Now we’re a bunch of nobodies, but could the GOAT help us out.” Radke responded that they needed to earn their stripes and be content with the time slot offered. Despite his firm stance, he also offered assurance and said he would personally come to watch them perform if they were concerned about the audience.

If accepted by the judge, Manson would face a $1,200 fine with part of it suspended, 20 hours of community service within six months, and would need to remain arrest-free for two years. Manson's lawyer stated that any contact related to spitting or sneezing was unintentional and that the alleged victim consented to exposing herself to potential bodily fluid contact in her line of work.
