News you may have missed! (7/29/19)
What does 'All Punked Up' even mean? Frank Iero bashes Joe Jonas over MCR reunion rumors, blink-182 announce new album, release date and so much more!
Hey everyone! Welcome back to our weekly mailer. This week, in the Random Thoughts section, I answer the question: What does All Punked Up even mean? But before we get to that, we’ve got a lot of good news from this past week to share. So, here we go!
News you may have missed…
After a ton of teasing, blink-182 announced their new album ‘NINE’ and it’s release date!
Remember those My Chemical Romance reunion rumors that Joe Jonas spurred up? Well, Frank Iero has responded directly to those comments stating: “You’re a Disney band, bro”. Be sure to check out the interview.
All Punked Up writer, Chevy, wrote a nice piece on Music Genres: their evolution and their blurred lines. It’s a great read.
Speaking of Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong showed off his brand new ‘Dookie’ guitar pedal. Now guitar players can get the same tone as that epic album has.
Tom DeLonge answered fan questions about Angels & Airwaves, blink-182 & more. This interview has quite a bit of typical Tom DeLonge humor. Check that out!
The full cover of Billie Eilish’s ‘bad guy’ in the style of blink-182’s ‘Take Off Your Pants and Jacket’ album was released. It seeming to get a lot of mixed reviews. Tell us what you think.
NOFX was late for their Warped Tour set, so other Warped Tour bands filled in for them. This would have been cool to see.

Random Thoughts…
What does “All Punked Up” really mean?
When I decided to start a music news site dedicated to the music I enjoyed listening to and the scene I loved growing up and throughout my teen years, I somehow thought of “All Punked Up.” It took me awhile to come up with a name, but one day, it just came to me and I thought: “This is the one.”
So after coming up with the name, I did a rigorous search to make sure no one was using this name. It was available as a .COM and as a handle on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, so I bought in.
Throughout the last 3 years since All Punked Up has been in existence, there have been people along the way who say the news we cover isn’t punk related. That’s definitely true if your definition of “punk” is the post-evolution definition of the term. When I was a teenager and enthralled into the punk scene, punk to me wasn’t just your mom and dad’s version of punk. It was a combination of the early-punk genres and the newly rising sub-genre of pop punk. You know, bands that we all love and know: blink-182, Green Day and The Offspring. These bands were leading a change. A change that became the evolution of punk and would forever change the genre and term whether you like it or not.
All Punked Up, to me, is continuing on that journey that those bands mentioned above paved the way for us to do in the first place. Personally, I’ve had a hard time putting into words what “All Punked Up” really means until one of my writers, Chevy, and I talked about a post he was writing called: Music Genres: their evolution and their blurred lines. In that post, he made a reference to All Punked Up and how people follow us because of their punk ties. He goes onto discuss the evolution of music genres (most specifically, punk), but at the end of his post, he summed up what All Punked Up is all about and what punk is today stating:
“…the word “punk” has also evolved along with how the music surrounding it has, and that is a clear sign that we can be punk in the way that fits us better, with no compromises but love for the music that moves us and gives us a voice to rebel and go beyond the surface.”
And that’s what All Punked Up is all about: “we can be punk in the way that fits us better, with no compromises but love for the music that moves us and gives us a voice to rebel and go beyond the surface.” The original punk term meant going against the norm. Today, we can freely be who we are, who we want to be and be a part of what we want. We have a voice to stand up for ourselves and what we believe in. We can lead change. And there is nothing more “punk” than that.
Thank you!
