OP-ED: Grayscale is winning at everything-- here's why
The Pennsylvania-based pop-punk group Grayscale has skyrocketed their way into fame the past few years. Previously, Grayscale has opened for bands like As It Is and State Champs, well as the Vans Warped Tour. The band is currently signed to Fearless Records.
Their first full-length album Adornment released in 2017 and their second album, Nella Vita, released in September of this year. The band completed their first headlining tour based on Nella Vita, which traveled to over two dozen cities. The band recently announced a second leg of the Nella Vita tour will begin in January. Clearly, the boys have had a very productive two years.
But why are they winning at everything?
For starters, Grayscale went from being the first opening act for State Champs to headlining their own tour in just a few short months. Their fan base grew to over 330,000 monthly listeners on Spotify this year. They were featured in Forbes magazine for their business model.
On top of this, their album Nella Vita charted at number 1 for Billboard’s Heatseekers Album Chart. Grayscale also charted at #6 for the Rock Album Chart and #21 of Billboard’s Top Albums Chart.
It’s safe to say they have gained a lot of attention and success in the past year or two. While I have only been a fan of Grayscale for a little over a year now, I can tell you they are one of my top five bands of all time.
While I love them for their music, I also adore them for their fan interaction.
The first time I saw Grayscale, they were selling their own merch at their table and were ecstatic that people wanted to take pictures with them. Despite the fact that they have grown tremendously, the band is trying to make as many honest connections with fans as possible.
Yesterday, Grayscale posted on their official Instagram page that they will call fans who direct message their ticket confirmation and phone number. As an eager fan, I, of course, sent them my information. I didn’t expect them to call, let alone to actually hold a conversation with me.
I got a call from a blocked number around 3pm today. With excitement, I answered the phone. It was Nick! He first asked if he was speaking to Julia and immediately brought up which show I will be attending. Nick and I talked for several minutes about the album, the upcoming show, and the shows I have seen them previously at. We also talked about how we were spending the rest of the month and he wished me a very happy holiday!
The fact that the band members are spending their day personally calling fans shows how much these boys genuinely care about their fanbase. A two-minute phone call has probably made dozens of fans’ days today.
Because of their incredible music, business model, recognition, and fan interaction, I think Grayscale is winning at everything.
You can still send them a direct message to receive a phone call-- they are calling until Sunday!
