State Champs' high-energy makes fans lose their ever-loving minds
On Friday April 7th, pop-punkers State Champs blew through Cleveland, OH, for a rousing performance at the Agora Theatre. This was the first stop on their U.S. tour that included openers Don Broco, With Confidence and Against The Current.
When With Confidence took the stage, the Australian pop-punks drew the audience in with their super catchy tracks like "Archers" and "We'll Be Okay." Their stage presence was light and fun, closing out their set with the fan-favorite "Keeper." With Confidence sounded wonderful and looked great! They were absolutely perfect and did their job in getting the crowd warmed up.
Against The Current came out next. While watching, it was clear that as a band, they mesh so well together. Transitions between songs were super smooth and the crowd was completely engulfed by them. Lead vocalist Chrissy Costanzo is almost impossible to take your eyes off of. She moves swiftly through songs like "Wasteland" and pushed her vocals during a dominating performance of "Gravity." Costanzo is an intense performer in the best way and is hands-down the real deal.
Finally, came State Champs with a set loaded with tracks of old and tracks of new. It's safe to say that from oldies like "Deadly Conversation" to their newest material in "Slow Burn," the crowd was more than pleased and was loving every minute. The high-energy from the crowd definitely saw State Champs feeding off it. This made their performances (and really, the whole show) that much more powerful. The crowd erupted into lyrics during "All You Are Is History" which then turned into a total dance party during "Perfect Score" and then everyone lost their ever-loving-minds during "Simple Existence." Their set unfortunately had to come to a close ending with the fan-favorites "Elevated" followed by "Secrets."
State Champs never made you feel like you're just watching them play. They interacted with everyone. And in doing so, this made it more than obvious that the entire venue felt more comfortable, loose and excited the whole night because of it.
