Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" makes radio return after Grammy duet
With streams jumping 153% and digital downloads skyrocketing 38,400%, "Fast Car" gets another push to radio.
Following a surprise performance with country music star Luke Combs at the Grammy Awards, Tracy Chapman's original version of "Fast Car" is getting a renewed push on radio stations across various formats.
The 1988 hit saw a significant boost after the Feb. 4 ceremony, with streams jumping 153% and digital downloads skyrocketing 38,400%. This resurgence prompted Rhino Records to service the song to radio stations, alongside the video of the Grammy performance.
While the video clip won't be available in audio format, stations can promote it on their social media and websites. Chapman's "Fast Car" originally peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988. Following the Grammy performance, it re-entered the chart at No. 42, highlighting its enduring popularity.
This move capitalizes on the renewed interest in the song, potentially introducing it to a new generation of listeners. While Combs' version also benefited from the performance, Chapman's original remains a powerful testament to her songwriting and continues to resonate with audiences decades after its release.
