So, I don’t think just any cemetery should be putting on shows, but when it’s done well I love it. There’s a cemetery in Philly I go to often—they have concerts, show movies, host plays, and I even saw an aerial circus performance there. It sounds REAL weird at first, but everyone who attends is so respectful because 1. It’s a well established cemetery that has a really good relationship with the community 2. I think people realize it’s a really special thing and if they fuck it up that’ll be the end of that. There’s actually a huge wait list to be buried at the cemetery. While it’s not for everyone, I think a lot of people love the idea of being surrounded by so much life after their death.

That actually sounds really cool. On the surface, it sure does sound weird, but I can definitely see it being something special for some.

What types of concerts do they have? Is it more of the jazz or classical types? Or do they have rock genres as well? And what about the movies? Are they typically horror or something else? I'm very intrigued.

It’s usually spooky classical music, but about once a year they have a rock/punk concert. As for movies, it’s usually older horror movies or family friendly spooky fare. They know they’re catering mostly to the goths haha.

That makes all the sense lol. Sounds like it could be a good time. Is it usually BYOB (or drinks and food) or do they have a concession stand? Sorry for all of the questions. Since hearing about this, I'm very curious about it.

Hey, ask away! It’s def a unique thing. If I recall correctly, a lot of their events encourage BYO booze, snacks, chairs, picnic blankets etc, and then they’ll sometimes have a stand or truck selling local beers and wine. Maybe they had a drink limit, because I never saw anyone get drunk or rowdy at their events. This is the place if you’re ever in that area: https://laurelhillphl.com/!

Interesting! I know there is a cemetery in L.A. that shows movies but music feels like something else. I keep imagining what my mother would think if certain songs were played near her grave site! Then again, she loved Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" so the irony of it would be kind of funny. She'd probably appreciate it!

I imagine the past sarcastic types would love that song to be played lol.

We don't have anything like that where I'm from in Springfield, IL, but I do feel like it would work well here.
